In 2019, a Metroid Prime player fell asleep while in the starting room. Since the player had insomnia problems, they left the game running for more days... until the player found out Samus's gunship had been slowly drifting forwards for over 24 hours. Since then, this is now documented as a glitch. The official Reddit thread has a better story on how this user (u/angelar_) found the glitch, and the explanation for it.
