According to the director of Yoshi's Crafted World, Masahiro Yamamoto, the game takes place in rooms designed by children (most likely Baby Mario, Peach...) in a kindergarten. Developers even considered designing the exterior and interior of the school.
Those kids had better creative designs that I did on kindergaten.
